AN RSPCA centre is urgently looking for loving new homes for cats and kittens in their care after an influx has left them full to the brim at their temporary base in Bury.

RSPCA Bury, Oldham and District is currently home to eight cats and kittens who are awaiting new homes, due to a closure of their centre in Oldham.

Staff are concerned that being at full capacity at their temporary cattery in Bury, is leaving no space for other rescue cats to come through the doors for their second chance.

The branch has taken in more young cats over the summer as this is the time when cats breed.

Lisa Walsh, deputy animal centre manager, said: “Our animal centre of 35 years closed this month at our Rhodes Bank, Oldham, location and our new centre will not be built until spring 2016 at the earliest.

“The RSPCA Bury, Oldham and District branch’s intake capacity has been severely compromised due to limited cattery space.

“Our branch now has a smaller interim cattery located in the Bury area which can accommodate up to eight cats at any one time.

“This is particularly challenging as we normally have up to 48 cats in our care at any one time and the RSPCA receives an influx of cats and kittens every year and especially now during the kitten season.

“We are urging prospective owners to come forward and adopt a cat from the RSPCA, as this will help us to help more animals in need.”

The branch is currently in the process of building a new shelter in Waterhead, Oldham, and is trying to raise funds to complete the work required.
