A CHARITY'S first ever family fun day proved a resounding success, with £875 raised at Bury FC.

Annabelle's Challenge, named after Brandlesholme six-year-old Annabelle Griffin, recently partnered with the Shakers to boost the charity's profile in the local community.

Parents Jared and Sarah Griffin set up the charity to help to support families affected by Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS), a condition which puts Annabelle at daily risk of her internal organs and arteries spontaneously rupturing.

Around 4,000 visitors attended the fun day on August 15, which included bouncy castles, assault courses and live entertainment, with further events now planned during the rest of the football season.

The charity was also presented with a cheque for £220 by local artist and Bury FC supporter Paul Fox, who auctioned two paintings to help raise awareness of VEDS.

Mr Griffin said: "The launch of our first family fun day at Bury FC was a great success and an opportunity to raise awareness of vascular EDS. The support from the local community was fantastic.

"It was a lovely gesture of Paul to donate two paintings to raise funds for our charity."
