A DOG had to be rescued by firefighters from water in Stoneclough.
Firefighters came to the aid of the Staffordshire bull terrier, which had fallen into a disused sewage pit in Ringley Wood at about 5.45pm.
They used a ladder to help the dog out of the pit and reunite it with its owner.
A fire service spokesman said: "Fortunately the owner of the dog did not decide to go in after it.
The fire crew congratulated him for that, because if he did it would have been very likely that he would have been in trouble as well."
