GARDENERS and bakers produced a room full of colourful exhibits at a landmark Ramsbottom show.

Ramsbottom Horticultural Society celebrated 100 years at their summer show with displays of flowers, vegetables and confectionary on Monday.

More than 35 exhibitors displayed their creations at Ramsbottom Cricket Club and visitors flocked to admire them.

Show secretary Colette Gowers said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We had plenty of exhibits and the flowers, vegetables, confectionary and children’s classes were all of a very high standard.

“We’re in our centenary year now, it’s exciting, and was great to see so many children enjoying the displays.”

The Master Class was won by David Valentine, with a display of flowers and vegetables.

Alice Bracegirdle won the Blue Ribbon and B.G.S. Silver Medal with a red Gladioli.

Ian Sutherland not only won the Championship class, N.D.S.Silver but also the N.D.S.Bronze Medals in the Dahlia section.

The Juniors section had two winners: Ceryf Pemberton with the highest points and Amber Rose Pemberton with the best exhibit.

The Irene Rothwell Certificate for highest points by a lady member went to Mrs Gowers who also shared the Wilf Taylor Trophy with Mrs Bracegirdle.

The Best in Show was won by an exhibit of three leeks, which earned the overwhelming vote from all judges, and were grown by Paul Booth, a first time exhibitor at the show.
