A BURY fire crew attended a small hay fire started by a group of children at Elton Reservoir this afternoon.
The hay caught fire on a field at Elton Sailing Club at around 2pm.
A farmer attempted to put the blaze out but the fire crew were called out after he was nearly burned.
A spokesperson for the brigade said the children thought it would be “funny” to start the fire but it caused a couple of hundred yards of wasted hay which was to be used to feed livestock.
