MORE than 210 'Old Girls' returned to Bury Grammar School for a special reunion lunch.

Groups representing every decade from 1955, ranging from the ages of 23 to 84, met up with old friends in the historic Roger Kay Hall in the Girls’ school.

The former students, some of whom had travelled from as far away as Canada, enjoyed tours of the building's new facilities, which were unrecognisable to many from their time at school, and included the new joint sixth form centre.

A school spokeswoman: "The school bell sounded at 12.15 whereby all of the ladies joined in a resounding chorus of the School Song. This was followed by a delicious buffet lunch and speeches of welcome from the new headmistress, Mrs Jo Anderson."

England cricketer and former pupil Kate Cross was among the guests, who presented Mrs Anderson with a signed shirt.
