A £700 donation is heading to Bury Hospice thanks to the efforts of hundreds of athletes.

In mid June, 334 people took part in the Prestwich Challenge, which began at Sedgley Park Rugby Club in Park Lane, Whitefield.

Over an eight-mile course, competitors tackle obstacles such as cargo nets and rope swings.

At one point, they had to get into water right up to their necks and wade through to the other side.

After paying for the event's organisation, volunteers from Prestwich Athletics Club were able to make a worthy donation to the hospice.

“It is always a really good day and seems to be growing each year. It’s great to be able to do something for such a great cause,” said a Prestwich Challenge spokesman.

Organisers also donated cash to families of disabled children recommended by Bury Child Development Centre, based at Fairfield Hospital.
