UNSUNG heroes were honoured at the inaugural Pride of Bury Awards in memory of inspirational teenager Joshua Wilson

The event at the Bury's Village Hotel, which attracted 200 guests and dignitaries, was held a year after the death of the 14-year-old boy from Walshaw who captured the hearts of the community.

Joshua's mum Dawn Fidler, together with Samantha Gibbs, meeting and events sales office manager at the Village Hotel, jointly organised Friday's event which featured nine award presentations.

Each "hero" category reflected the contribution made by people in everyday life and highlighted and celebrated the aspects which make Bury proud.

Guests included the Mayor of Bury Cllr Stella Smith and her consort, husband John, Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, Bury Council leader Cllr Mike Connolly and council chief executive Mike Owen.

Dawn said: "It was an incredible night and being able to share my boy's legacy with so many local heroes was just amazing. Well done to everyone nominated, shortlisted and, of course, our finalists.

"There are so many very special people here in Bury. A massive thank you to each and every person who helped make it so magical and here's to Pride of Bury 2016."
