FIREFIGHTERS are busy tackling nuisance bonfires in and around Bolton.

Local crews have already dealt with a number of incidents on what is their busiest day of the year.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue are tweeting about the bonfire night related incidents, to show the public the numbers of calls they are receiving.

Calls started coming in at just after 5pm, with crews being sent to Westhoughton after children were seen playing around a bonfire and firefighters in Bury dealt with a bonfire in a back street.

Firefighters were called to Radcliffe after rubbish was set on fire close to houses.

Just before 6pm Bolton firefighters were called to a large bonfire in a field in the town.

Crews are now dealing with an out of control bonfire in Radcliffe and have also been dispatched to Little Hulton to deal with a fire in an outbuilding.

The fire brigade is urging parents to ensure where their children are tonight after the service was told that children are throwing paint thinner onto a fire.

The fire service posted on their Facebook page this evening: “Busy busy night already lots of phone calls from people concerned about out of control bonfires and youths setting fires across Greater Manchester - for all the action follow our Twitter feed @manchesterfire Please stay safe and enjoy Bonfire Night.”
