DRIVERS around Bury are encountering standing water on the roads this morning following periods of heavy rain last night.
Holly Mount Lane in Greenmount is among areas affected after yesterday’s downpours.
The Environment Agency issued a warning for the Upper Irwell catchment area on November 9, affecting Farnworth, Whitefield, Little Lever, Radcliffe, Bury, Heywood, Whitworth and Bacup.
Although further showers are expected tonight, the Environment Agency has advised levels are now receding.
A spokesman said: “River levels are falling and the situation in the area is now improving.
“Further showers are expected during the night tonight.
“Duty officers are continuing to monitor the situation and further information will follow in due course if required.”
However, standing water remains in some areas.
Drivers are urged to avoid driving through deep standing water, as this could cause serious damage to the car's engine.
