GROUNDBREAKING work at a new retirement development is officially underway in Holcombe Brook.

Bury North MP David Nuttall donned a hard hat and high-vis jacket to mark the work by McCarthy and Stone in Longsight Road.

Mr Nuttall MP was joined by Jon Sheehy, of McCarthy and Stone, to officially mark the occasion, and also had the opportunity to view plans for the development.

Designed for the over 60s, the development will comprise 50 one and two bedroom apartments, with first occupations due to take place in autumn 2016.

Fiona Brooks, of McCarthy and Stone North West, said: “It was fantastic to welcome everyone down to the development to commemorate the occasion, especially with David on hand to place the first spade in the ground.

“Even at this early stage we’ve already received significant interest from local retirees with potential purchasers attracted to the hassle-free lifestyle on offer at our Retirement Living developments.

“We’re urging anyone interested in securing one of these stunning apartments for themselves to register their interest soon or risk disappointment.”

Facilities will include a lounge, landscaped gardens and a guest suite for homeowners’ friends or relatives to stay.

A house manager will ensure the smooth running of the apartments, which will include a security entrance system and 24-hour emergency call points.
