AN extra information session has been arranged for residents and businesses to hear about the £2 million plans to transform Prestwich's high street.

It will take place on Monday at the Longfield Suite from 4-7pm, and will include a presentation followed by a question and answer session starting at 6pm.

More than 300 people have already had their say on a consultation that opened last month, after Bury Council tabled two proposals to improve Bury New Road, both of which would see the road reduced from two lanes to one in each direction between St Mary's Close and Fairfax Road, with pavements widened.

Councillor Jane Black, chair of Prestwich Township Forum, said: “It’s important that everyone is fully informed of the detail and the reasons behind the plans, so we have called this extra meeting to give people even more opportunity to find out the facts behind the proposals.

“It’s also important to stress that this is a plan to improve the town centre environment for all; pedestrians, shoppers and businesses as well as road users.

“Consultation runs until December 23, and I urge everyone to look at the plans and give us your views, either online or fill in a survey at the library.”

The plans are on display in Prestwich Library – where council staff will discuss them with visitors on December 3, 6, 12, 13, 17 and 20, from 10am to noon – and online at www.bury.gov.uk/prestwichhighst
