THE mum of a woman hit by a car in Thailand has given an update on her progress.

Lucy Hill, aged 21, of Whitefield, was riding a moped when the crash took place in the northern city of Chiang Mai last Saturday.

Her mother Alison flew out to be at her bedside and arrived on Sunday night.

On Wednesday, she said: "Can I start by saying a big 'thank you' to everyone for their kind messages and kind wishes for Luce Hill?

"Lucy is still in intensive care. Because of the massive blood response she is making small steps everyday.

"She is very frightened, confused and scared.

"She now opens one eye but I'm sure she knows I am here for her.

"I have just received some really good news.

"Because Lucy's blood levels have improved and there is blood on standby, Lucy is hopefully going back into theatre on Thursday for surgery to her pelvis.

"This is really good news for Lucy, my family and myself.

"I would like to thank the Ravavej Hospital for their help and patience with me, especially the director Wirachat Lertnithikul and the English coordinator Gercileen Del Prado.

"I would also like to thank Lauren Hall.

"She is one amazing lady and the other is to the young boys and girls at Deejai Backpackers where Lucy was staying who have come everyday and supported her. Thanks guys."

Lucy's aunt Sue Raleigh said the operation went well and she also had treatment to relieve a bleed on the brain.

Ms Raleigh added that an appeal for blood had prompted such a strong response that Lucy now has enough to carry her through, though she might need more blood in future.
