A BURY school has received yet more praise from inspectors.

In 2011, monitors from education watchdog Ofsted visited East Ward Primary School in Willow Street and gave it a 'good' rating — the second out of four possible ratings.

Inspectors returned on January 19 this year to carry out a short inspection and their report was published on Tuesday.

In a letter to the school's acting headteacher David Waites, Ofsted inspector Jean Olsson-Law said: "The school continues to be good.

"The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.

"You have built on the work of the previous headteacher (Ross McMurdo) to keep teaching vibrant and to raise the achievement of pupils.

"You, and all staff, have created a nurturing and purposeful atmosphere that helps pupils to learn and promotes their all-round development and wellbeing very effectively."

Ms Olsson-Law added that behaviour is management well, that the school builds good relationships with outside agencies and that pupil attendance has improved and was similar to the national average last year.

The report concludes by encouraging the school's leaders and governors to ensure children's progress in the early years continues to quicken and that teaching supports pupils spelling.
