BURY is home to the UK business of the year – Barista Cafe Bar.

The cafe, located at The Rock, has been crowned UK Business of the Year as part of a nationwide competition by thebestof.

Barista fought off competition from businesses up and down the country.

The awards, organised by thebestof, showcase great local businesses, and are based on customer reviews.

The more reviews each company receives, the higher their success in their own category, in town and in the UK.

At a national level, over 48,000 reviews were left for over 700 businesses who had qualified to take part.

After months of encouraging customers to write reviews, Barista, with 859 reviews, was crowned the worthy winner, with other Bury-based businesses receiving acclaim too.

Barista, run by Vicki Kaye and her team, came fourth in the competition last year.

Bury has three local businesses in the top 10 and 13 in the top 100.

Kathryn Burns of thebestofbury said: "Barista really deserved to win this award. We are incredibly proud of Vicki and her whole team who have a real passion for delivering excellent service, the finest food and wonderful coffee.

"Some enter Barista as strangers and leave as friends, it’s that personal, friendly touch that makes all of the difference – so much so that over the last few days alone, they pulled out all of the stops, handing in and verifying over 200 reviews. A true testament to a local business clearly loved by it’s customers."

Vicki Kay, owner of Barista Cafe Bar, said: “The team and I are so thrilled to have been voted UK Business of The Year 2016, it was such a close campaign.

"We had so much support from our regular and new customers, and have received many lovely congratulations since winning.

"We're so pleased that we've been able to retain the title for Bury for the second year running and thank everyone for voting."
