SCHOOL children in Summerseat welcomed in the spring with clouds of colour and a sponsored run.

Summerseat Methodist Primary School celebrated the Hindu festival of Holi which marks the start of spring with colour.

Youngsters from Class 2 took part in a colour run, collected sponsors and held a cake sale to help raise cash for Millie’s Trust, which aims to provide first aid training for minimal costs across the country.

Parents and carers cheered the students on at the school’s playground in Rowlands Road, as the class managed to raise more than £300 for the charity.

The children made their own non-toxic colour powder, which they celebrated with at the end of each lap during their run.

Leanne Breckon, Class 1 and 2 teacher at the school, said: "As well as having a fantastic week preparing for the sponsored colour run we had an amazing time taking part in it.

"Both grown ups and children got very messy and we braved the rainy weather to go ahead with it.

"It has also been a great opportunity to raise awareness of first aid practices through our charity Millie's Trust and we look forward to presenting the money which will hopefully go towards more people being trained in first aid. "A huge well done to Class 2 who's brilliant spirits and enthusiasm made the event a success.

"I'd also like to say a massive thank you to staff, parents and carers for their amazing support and generosity."

Head teacher, Steven Ollis added: “Despite the awful weather, the children, staff and parents had a fantastic time in raising money for Millie’s trust.

“Would like to thank all the families who attended and supported the colour run. We are looking forward to presenting the money to Millie’s Trust."
