A VAN driver suffered serious injuries after becoming trapped following a lorry crash this afternoon.
The driver of the Ford Transit van had to be freed from his vehicle after it collided with the lorry in Bury and Bolton Road, near Watling Street, at around 2.45pm this afternoon. He was airlifted to hospital.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that three people had been injured in the incident and taken to hospital.
The lorry driver is thought to have suffered minor injuries and was described as "walking wounded" by police.
The road is partially blocked eastbound between the Higher Ainsworth Road junction and the Watling Street junction.
Some bus services are diverting as a result.
