A WEEKLY fine food market has closed due to declining interest.
The event had been a fixture at Radcliffe Market Hall every Saturday since opening last September, proving a big hit in the run-up to Christmas.
However, interest from shoppers and stallholders has waned since the new year, prompting organisers Castlefield Events to cancel the market.
When the market opened in September, it was hailed as another step in the town centre's regeneration, following the £1 million refurbishment of the Market Hall.
Jodie Bannister, of Castlefield Events, said: "We had a lot of support after we opened, but it has been quiet since January.
"We were down to only having five or six stallholders, and decided that we couldn't continue with it.
"Some of the other businesses at the market weren't happy with us being there and we found that our customers weren't staying for the rest of the market, and vice versa.
"If the rest of the market was different, then it might have been easier to sustain the fine food events."
Farrars Cafe and Tea Room, which also run by Castlefield Events, remains open for business at the Market Hall.
The company is also running Manchester’s Castlefield Market.
