A CAR park attendant came to the rescue when a car caught fire in Bury today.
Fire crews were saved the task of tackling a car fire this afternoon when a quick thinking attendant put out the flames using an extinguisher from a near-by store.
The Peugeot caught fire outside Argos in St George Street at around 1.20pm when the owner attempted to restart the vehicle using jump leads.
A fire crew from Bury were called to the car park but the blaze was out by the time they arrived.
Watch manager Steve Wilcock said: “There was smoke and fire coming from the bonnet so the car park attendant went to the B&M store to get a foam fire extinguisher and put it out.
“We would recommend only using an extinguisher following formal training but, of course, on this occasion it paid off.
“He got on it early and dealt with it straightaway. As a result there was only a little bit of damage.
“It was quite an old Peugeot 206, a 2001 model, and apparently there had been some issues with the battery before. The fire was caused when the owner attempted to jump-start it.”
