THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS

THERE was no chance of the rain ruining the party on Saturday night — especially when The Chemical Brothers appeared behind the decks.

Somewhat of a homecoming for Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, who honed their craft while studying at university in Manchester, the pair brought Saturday night's Parklife to a storming close.

Trippy visuals, lights, lasers and a serious bassline dazzled from the Main Stage as the big beat pioneers ripped through their 90 minute set of dance music gems.

Setting Sun, featuring the vocals of Manchester's own Noel Gallagher, was a real treat as darkness fell on the park while thousands of dance music fans partied in the mud.

There was also a taste of 2002 double A-side single The Test, featuring the vocals of The Verve's Richard Ashcroft.

Other tracks taken from the duo's hit 1997 album Dig Your Own Hole — which achieved Grammy award and multi-platinum status — included Block Rockin’ Beats and Elektrobank.

The superstar DJs really got the crowd going with Hey Boy Hey Girl before wowing the crowds with tunes from 2007 album We Are The Night including Do It Again and Galvanize.

Taken from recent album Born In The Echoes, released last year, was Grammy Award-nominated Go, featuring Q-Tip, which went down a treat with the young crowd.

While many people living around Heaton Park will no doubt be pleased the festivities are over for another year, when it comes to watching The Chemical Brothers, I'd happily Do It Again.
