FIRE crews were called to Fairfield Hospital after a chemical spillage.
The incident involved per acetic acid which is a cleaning fluid commonly used in hospitals which had split in a storage area.
Parts of the hospital had to be evacuated.
The incident happened just after noon today.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "Four fire engines were dispatched at 12.15pm.
"It was a chemical spillage in a storeroom of a hospital ward.
"The ward was evacuated and part of the second floor of the hospital was evacuated as well.
"Five casualties were assessed by hospital staff."
