PARENTS are being given the chance to have their car seats inspected for free in three events next month.

Bury Council's Road Safety Team will be at Asda Pilsworth on Tuesday, July 12, Asda Radcliffe the next day, and Tesco Prestwich on the the Thursday.

All three events take place from 10.30am to 3pm.

A council spokesman said: "We would like to stress that the Car Seat Clinics are being used to educate parents, correct any mistakes and improve safety.

"These car seat clinics are delivered in a friendly manner to help parents access support, information and give them peace of mind by ensuring that their child car seat is correctly fitted in their vehicle.

"Results from car seat clinics delivered in Bury over the past four years have shown that of the 375 car seat checks conducted, 53 per cent (199) have been incorrectly fitted or were unsuitable for the child or vehicle.

"This means that they would not have worked effectively in the event of a crash or collision."
