A week-long festival showcasing musical talent of all ages is coming to Bury.

The Bury Parish church Summer Proms runs from Sunday, July 10 until Sunday, July 17, and offers something for all musical tastes.

The event gets under way with a special Songs of Praise next Sunday.

Then on Monday, July 11 there will be an evening of brass featuring the award-winning Besses Boys Band from 7.30pm.

Tuesday, July 12 sees Bury Youth Prom from 7pm featuring the Derby High School Concert Band, conducted by James Holt, Bury Young Voices and choirs from five Bury primary schools — Christchurch, Walshaw; Unsworth; Holcombe Brook; St Thomas’s CE and St John with St Mark, all under the direction of Katie Geelan.

On the Wednesday at 7.30pm there will be a songs from the shows event with soloists Laura Hassall, soprano; Maggie McDonald, mezzo-soprano; John Findon, tenor and Elin Rees, accompanist.

The ever-popular Houghton Weavers will be in concert on Thursday, July 14 from 7.3pm with quartet Jazzvibe in concert the following night.

There will be a Last Night of the Proms-style event on Saturday, July 15 and the festival ends with a Come and Sing Choral Evensong at Bury Parish Church under the direction of Marc Murray, Director of Music. There will be a preliminary rehearsal in the church at 3.45pm.
