RAMSBOTTOM War Memorial Project has been given a welcome boost.

The project is trying to raise money for a new war memorial in the town which will honour all of the town's fallen heroes.

Most recently ISM Waste and Recycling of Ramsbottom donated £1,000 and the Bolton and District Parachute Regiment Association donated £3000.

Also giving her support to the project is The Veterans Sweetheart Sarah Dennis.

She was named as veterans sweetheart in 2014 an recently visited Ramsbottom to encourage people to donate to the project.

She said: "100 years ago someone's son, brother, father or husband left Ramsbottom to fight to save our freedom. It is only right that they be honoured by ensuring their names appear on the Ramsbottom War Memorial as soon as possible."

Miss Dennis is a Veteran herself and is currently half way through a four year tour of remembrance and is visiting schools in Lancashire and Greater Manchester to introduce the a free activity pack to the children of the region.

The pack is full of remembrance activities including the Remembering a forgotten Soldier Activity which encourages the children to look up local names of the fallen on the internet, with very little info beside their names and nominate them as their Remembered Soldier for life.

She added: "When I heard of the War Memorial Project I felt I simply had to try to do something to help. War is a horrid nasty business and without those brave souls we would not be enjoying our freedom now, we owe them a deep debt of gratitude and the least we can do is to ensure we remember them for generations to come by engraving their names on the war memorial."

Many local people and businesses have already donated but we still have a long way to go to reach the £50000 Target.
