A GENEROUS couple who lost their twins have smashed their fundraising target to refurbish Royal Bolton Hospital’s bereavement suite.

In October last year Gemma and Daniel Morgan lost their twins Archie and Ayla due to Gemma contracting an infection. The babies were stillborn and delivered at 22 weeks.

Their children were able to lie in one of the few cold cot facilities at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Later, Gemma, aged 32 from Bury, and her husband Daniel, aged 42, chose to help raise funds for an additional cold cot for the hospital and have now focussed their fundraising on helping to refurbish the bereavement suite.

The couple have met their £3,000 target thanks to a family fun day, which collected £2353 and a coffee morning, which raised £685.

Gemma, a senior microbiologist, who has a four-year-old daughter Neve, said: “After presenting the cuddle cot we asked the midwives at the hospital what they would like us to raise money for next, they suggested that we might like to help with the refurbishment of the bereavement suite where we stayed with Archie and Ayla.

“This is a more private and comfortable room, less like a hospital room, with a double bed for partners to stay over so of course we decided we would love to help with this.

“The family fun day was a great success and we had more than 1,000 people attending including people from the 4Louis charity who brought examples of a memory box and information about how they help bereaved parents.

“We had a range of different stalls, mini funfair, DJ, face painting, singing and dance displays from The Studio, dog show run by the lovely ladies at Pooches Palace.

“This means we have now smashed our target of £3,000 for the refurbishment of the bereavement suite at the Royal Bolton Hospital.”
