A FOOD store has gone the extra mile to mark its re-opening by raising £1,000 for Bury Cancer Support.

The Co-op’s Mile Lane store in Bury, re-opened on Friday, June 24, following a transformation costing £380,000.

The store is also the first in Bury to reveal the Co-op’s new logo as its food stores and funeral homes go back to the future with its new look.

Representatives from Bury Cancer Support and, Caritas Foodbank – which is also being supported by the shop – helped to cut the ribbon and declare the new-look Co-op open for the community.

Community pioneer, Paula Lafferty, was appointed to underpin the Co-op’s commitment to making a difference in the community.

Store manager, Matthew Fernley said: “The Co-op is committed to transforming and growing its convenience business and we are delighted to be making such a significant investment in Bury - the store looks great and it really is an exciting time for the whole team.

“As a community retailer, and a co-operative, our aim is to establish the store as a community hub, playing a real part in local life and delivering a compelling and convenient shopping experience locally to ensure the store is a real asset to the community.”

Keith Halliwell, area manager for the Co-op, added: “Our new Co-op look represents all that we stand for, our proud co-operative heritage and our decision that membership, the very thing that makes us truly distinctive, must be at the heart of all we say and do.

“The Co-op’s blue design logo – often referred to as the ‘clover leaf’ and first used in the late 1960’s – links to a time when people really understood how they could be co-owners of their Co-op, and how a strong Co-op could help to create strong communities.”

There will be offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its re-launch.
