THE ROUTE for a major new charity run in Bury has been revealed.

The Asda Foundation Bury 10k, which takes place on Sunday September 18, will start and finish outside The Rock.

The route will see runners take in a host of the town's landmarks including Bury Town Hall, Bury Parish Church, the Fusilier Museum and Bury Art Museum.

The new Asda Foundation Bury 10K is being organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, a not-for-profit company, in partnership with I Will If You Will (IWIYW), a fitness movement in Bury that's helping women, girls and their families to be more active.

Charlie Tatman, Run For All event manager, said: "We're very excited to be able to announce the route of the new Asda Foundation Bury 10K.

"It's a brilliant new challenge for the area and we hope lots of people will be inspired to sign up and give it a go.”

Cllr Catherine Preston, deputy cabinet member for health and wellbeing at Bury Council, said: "We're really looking forward to Bury hosting its inaugural 10K race in September and to see the route released has definitely seen excitement step up a notch. "The run will not only see runners and spectators racing around the town’s streets but will also raise funds for good causes.

"I've taken part in the Greater Manchester Run for over a decade and I still love the challenge and sense of achievement when I cross the finishing line, so I'd recommend people of all ages and fitness levels to sign up for the Bury 10k with me."

The Bury 10K is the latest addition to the hugely successful Asda Foundation 10K series, which includes runs in Leeds, York, Lincoln, Burnley, Nottingham, Sheffield and Hull.

The series is organised by Run For All, part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2m for charity by tackling a string of endurance challenges despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Arena Group managing director Adrian Fitzpatrick, said: "We are proud to be involved with this fantastic new event in Bury and we look forward to seeing lots of families taking part."
