A COUPLE woke in the early hours of the morning to see the family cars blazing in the driveway.

Both vehicles, a VW and a Toyota, were badly damaged in what is thought to have been an arson attack.

Police are investigating the Sunday morning incident, which occurred at around 2.30am, in Manchester Road, Bury close to the border with Whitefield.

It is thought the owners of the property had reported damage to one of their cars a week earlier, when a window was smashed.

Watch manager at Whitefield Fire Station, Tim Eaton, said fire fighters had fitted an extra smoke alarm and added they would be visiting the family to reassure them.

It is believed the family was woken by the noises made as the fires in the vehicles took hold. A lighter and a blazing petrol can were found nearby.
