PLANS to turn a garage into a house have been approved despite strong objections from neighbours.

The proposed site is between 18 and 24 Bradley Fold Road, Ainsworth.

Lynn Hardy attended a meeting of Bury Council's planning committee to voice concerns on behalf of her parents who live adjacent to the current garage.

She explained that her parent's house had heritage status and they were concerned that the building would damage their property.

Speaking at the meeting at Bury Town Hall on Tuesday she added: "The vibrations caused by the modern machinery could be catastrophic to their house. They will have no way to maintain their home if the application goes ahead."

The plans said that the applicant, David Morris, would redevelop the current site which has five garages in total for a single detached dwelling.

The gap between the new property and number 18 would be 0.4m.

John Hodgkinson speaking on behalf of the agent said that it would help to make a small contribution to the council's requirement to build more housing.

He added: "The main objection has been about damage to the end house and I'm sure that any work that's carried out would not cause any damage and that would not be a planning issue any way that would be an issue between the two parties."

Cllr Jackie Harris said: "I'm hoping that the applicant is aware of the concern and hope that he is considerate to himself and the neighbours."

The committee voted in favour of approving the application with conditions.
