BURY Hospice’s legion of volunteers were thanked as the charity opened the doors of its latest shop.

The hospice, which is marking its 25th anniversary, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new charity shop in Blackburn Street, Radcliffe, on Tuesday morning.

The shop’s former premises, just a few doors along the street, has already been put to good use as the hospice’s first discount store.

Nurses Anne Riley, Nicola Crowther and Melissa Summers officially opened the new charity shop and praised the volunteers for their continued dedication in helping raise much needed income to fund hospice care for people with life-shortening illnesses.

Samantha Duncan, retail and volunteer services manager for Bury Hospice, said: “The new shop looks fantastic. I cannot thank the magnificent team of staff and volunteers enough, who have put their hearts and souls into making this happen.

“The branding message inside the shop is designed to inform our customers how their money and donations directly help people to fulfil their wishes during life-shortening illnesses.”

She added: “The people of Bury, Tottington, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Prestwich and Ramsbottom have always been incredibly supportive of the shops and the hospice, so we’re delighted to be able to offer them even more choice to bag a bargain and the opportunity to support a great cause.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming our loyal customers through the doors and of course meeting new supporters.

“And if anyone is interested in volunteering at the new shops, we’d love to hear from them too.”
