BURY College art students have been recognised for their outstanding achievements.

Students from the art department had the opportunity to present their work to peers and tutors, and discuss the inspiration behind their pieces at a recent showcase.

Zoe Austin, aged 17, from Whitefield, was awarded Best in Show for her end-of-year piece.

The former Parrenthorn High School student created a jacket and top hat design, which had a vintage twist with a focus on clockwork and steam trains.

Zoe, who is studying a UAL level three diploma in art and design, will be progressing on to the second year of her course hoping to study textiles at university.

She said: “I was very proud to receive the Best in Show award and that all my hard work had been recognised. I am really enjoying my time at Bury College and like that we are able to take our work in our own direction.”

Sam Dutton, from Bury, secured a distinction in the UAL extended diploma in art and design after completing his final piece.

His work was a photograph he named Change, which showed the revolution of vehicles and transport on modern city landscapes.

Sam, aged 18, a former Tottington High School pupil, was delighted to have secured the distinction, he said: “I am really happy with the grade I have received and the feedback I have had back about my work.”
