BURY College’s top performers this year included science supremos and ancient history aficionados.

D’arcy O’Neill, from Radcliffe, has secured a place at The University of Manchester to study Ancient History and Archaeology.

The 18-year-old, who achieved two As and a B, said: “I absolutely love Manchester as a city and I knew that it was the place I wanted to go.

“My course was the first at Bury College to do ancient history and it has been really great.”

Classmate Nicola Yates, also from Radcliffe, will be studying History at the University of Warwick after getting an A* and two A grades.

She said: “I was so nervous that I was shaking when I opened my letter. Warwick is a really good university for history and I’m so happy to be going there.”

Her parents, Karen and Paul, added: “We are so proud of her. You used to have to drag her out of bed to get to school, but she has found a subject she really loves and she has so much more confidence in herself now.”

Jonathan Birkett, of Ainsworth Road, will be studying study Physics with Sports Science at Loughborough University after gaining an A* and two As.

Star student Chloe Abeki achieved triple A* success in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and will be studying Chemistry at Durham University.
