GET set for some fabulous Bank Holiday Monday entertainment as Glaston-Bury festival returns to the town centre.

Since launching in Bury 2008, the annual event has gone from strength to strength and this year's musical extravaganza is set to be better and bigger than ever, with more than 100 bands performing.

As well as two outdoor stages — in Castle Street and Bank Street — there will be live entertainment at eight indoor venues, and organisers have come up with a clever way of ensuring revellers do not miss the highlights.

"We are putting up screens at the indoor venues which will show and tell people what is going on at the other venues, so they can choose where they go next," said festival organiser Chris Buckley.

He added: "Apparently, we have got a heatwave so the weather forecast is looking good.

"We're in for a really nice day, which makes for a bigger and better atmosphere.

"This is the first time we've had the second outdoor stage and we're really excited about it."

Headlining the festival are tribute bands The Ultimate Stone Roses, In Bloom (Nirvana), The Phonics (Stereophonics), Black Rose (Thin Lizzy), Pearl Scam (Pearl Jam) and Small Weller (Paul Weller).

Other indie, rock, dance and alternative artists will take to the stage across the day and there will even be Irish music bands and a brass band playing pop music.

Entry costs £7, with wristbands available from a stall in Castle Street from noon with the first bands performing at 12.30pm.

All proceeds go to Bury Hospice and the festival has donated more than £88,000 since its inception.

The indoor venues are within a five-minute walk of each other.

They are: Molloy's, Brambles, Retro Bar and Lunar Rocks in Silver Street, Blind Tiger and Wyldes in Bolton Street, the Two Tubs in The Wylde and Pizza Pioneer in Market Street.

Chris added: "When we started out, our objective was to host a live music event showcasing local talent while raising money for the hospice.

"We have prided ourselves on giving local talent a platform and on making a fantastic day out, with all proceeds going to a very worthy cause.

"We said from the start that Glaston-Bury was going to grow and become the highlight of the Bury music calendar and to this day our predictions are correct."
