A CELEBRATION of the local environment in Ramsbottom was a great success.

The Love Earth event was held in Nuttall Park to celebrate the outdoors and bring together environmentally minded groups.

Pete Fillery, who helped to organise the event, said: “We absolutely loved having so many happy, caring and creative people come and celebrate with us. It was a huge success.

“A big thank you goes to Ramsbottom Community Hub for bringing Rammy together like this. Hopefully it will be something that can grow and continue to flourish in the years.”

There was a range of activities from storytelling to outdoor crafts.

People took to the event’s Facebook page to rave about how good it was.

One said: “What a great day. We had a fabulous time and there was a lovely community atmosphere.”

Another guest added: “What a terrific day. Loved every minute.”

The event was a culmination of weeks of hard work by a number of volunteers, Ramsbottom Community Hub and Friends of Nuttall Park.

Residents lent gazebos and volunteers helped prepare and set up, with many of them coming down to support the event on the day.

Gwenda Newton, from Friends of Nuttall Park, said: “Thank you very much to all of the people who made Love Parks Week and Love Earth Day such a success.

“It was a real celebration of warm community feeling, all the photos show what a great time was had by everyone.”

The event was part of Love Parks Week, which is a national initiative aimed at raising awareness of the importance of parks and green spaces throughout the year.

It is in its 10th year and is a platform for park lovers to join forces in the UK’s largest celebration of green spaces.

Friends of Nuttall Park’s next event is the Lantern Parade on Saturday, October 29, at 3pm.
