FLOOD victims can share their views on the response to the Boxing Day disaster and find out what plans there are for new defences at a meeting next week.

The Radcliffe Residents Flood Action Group will be feeding back information gleaned from their discussions with Bury Council, United Utilities, the Environment Agency, and other organisations.

Residents will also have the opportunity to share their views ahead of the group's next meeting with agencies at the end of September.

Colette Jones, of the Flood Action Group, said: "We had this meeting with the agencies last month and will be meeting them again on September 27.

"Next week will be feeding back some important information to residents and sharing the answers that we got from that first meeting.

"It's important for anyone who was affected by the floods or who has worries about it happening again to come and find out what is being done and to work with us."

The meeting is being held at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 8, at the Bridge Methodist Church, in Milltown Street.

Among the topics up for discussion will be the issue to drain cleaning, with residents urged to do their bit to help reduce the impact of potential flooding.

Mrs Jones added: "One of the things we found out from our meeting was that there used to be four gully wagons for cleaning the drains around Bury, but now that has been reduced to one.

"We want to make a plea to the residents across Bury to do what they can to help prevent any flooding. Things like not putting wet ones down the toilet can make a big difference.

"Even the ones that are flushable don't break down, so they can cause blockages. That was a big contributing factor to the severity of the floods.

"We have also asked if we can have a timetable for when the gully wagon is going to be coming out, just like you have for bins.

"That would mean that residents can move their cars and let them have proper access to clean the drains."
