FORMER Hazlehurst Primary and Woodhey High School student Chris Nash will be returning to Bury to compete in tomorrow's first ever Run For All Bury 10k.

Chris, now 27, moved away from Bury in 2003 and has battled illness and disability since then, overcoming some difficult challenges to establish himself as a wheelchair racer.

Since then he has already competed in some of the North’s premier races including the elite wheelchair race at the Great Manchester Run, and counts the first ever Yorkshire Marathon wheelchair race among his wins.

Chris, now based in Bournemouth, was diagnosed with a chronic neurological illness six years ago that has left him in a permanent wheelchair user.

Returning to Bury will, according to Chris, be a big moment. He said: “When I left Bury in 2003 I could never have predicted the direction my life would take.

“I’ve had some really horrible moments since leaving Bury then, but now my racing is so successful I feel like it makes it easier to accept the struggles of being in a wheelchair.”
