A WOMAN and her three young children escaped harm following a kitchen blaze in Bury.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Ivy Road at around 8.30pm on Monday night, after the family's washer-dryer caught fire.

A GMFRS spokesman said: "The kitchen has suffered fire and smoke damage, and the washer-dryer was destroyed.

"The woman said there was a noxious smell coming from the washer-dryer so she unplugged it and then left the room for around five minutes. When she came back, the kitchen was on fire.

"The family evacuated themselves and the woman was checked over by paramedics at the scene."
