A SHOP could be banned from selling alcohol after town hall officials raised concerns.

Bury Council officers have urged Bury licensing panel to prevent the Best One Convenience Store in Rochdale Road, Bury, from selling alcohol following an “incident”.

It is understood the incident involved Bury Trading Standards, but Bury Council has said it will not reveal further details until a hearing takes place.

The shop is allowed to sell alcohol from 6am to 10pm daily, but a ban could be enforced if Bury licensing panel decide to revoke the licence at a town hall meeting next Tuesday, led by chairman Cllr David Jones. at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

It must consider if allowing the shop to continue selling alcohol would affect crime prevention, public safety, public nuisance or child protection. A Council report says: “Bury Trading Standards Weights and Measures Service will give their reasons at the meeting for the review application, in which they request the panel revoke the licence.”

It adds: “The premises licence at the time of the incident in question was held by Faisal Amin, of Oxford Street, Bury, held the licence at the time of the incident. “He has been the licence holder since November 27, 2015, when the licence was transferred to him from Naser Alyas, of Spring Street, Bury.

“Following the transfer, Mr Alyas remained at the shop as the designated premises supervisor. and was the supervisor at the date of the incident involving Bury Trading Standards.”

The report adds that Mr Amin’s wife, Abru Faisal, has since become the premises licence holder and supervisor. A spokesman for the shop said: “We will put our case forward at the hearing.”
