RADCLIFFE Athletic Club's 13 entrants were in luck after putting in a sterling show the Swinton 10-Mile Road Race.

Neal Emmerson led the Radcliffe contingent home in eighth place out of a strong field of more than 150 runners with a time of 1hr 0mins 13secs.

And Sheila Jones was first vet-60 in 1:23:03, while the club's men claimed fourth place out of 20 in the team competition and the women were also fourth out of eight teams.

The men's other two counters were Ian Warrington, who was 13th place in 1:03:22 and Chris Paxton, who was 41st overall and third in his age group in 1:10:52.

Other finishers included Peter Hunter (1:14:01), Steve Hamer (V55 1:19:46), Chris Fletcher (1:20:22 – breaking his personal best by more than eight minutes), Nick Barnes (1:21:48), Kate Holden (second V40 1:23:35), Katie Percival (1:26:28), Kirsten Cook (V50 1:31:29), Ian Hopkinson (1:34:55) and Beverley McGrath (V45 1:42:45).

The race was part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix and was also an event in the club's own Fast and Furious Championship.

In midweek, Ian Warrington was 11th in Ron Hill's 78th Birthday Race at Cowm Reservoir in Whitworth, Rochdale, finishing the 5k course in 18:10.

He also had his photo taken with the running legend.

New member Sarah Turner (V45) ran 28:59 and Warrington's wife, Debi (V45), ran 31:01 in her first race and only her third time running the distance.

In the Saturday parkruns, Vince Ashton added another location to his list, taking his total to 30, when he ran the Strathclyde course in 24:07.

At Heaton Park, Peter Hunter clocked 20:57, Sheila Jones 23:15, Nick Barnes 23:28, Chris Fletcher 23:56, Iain Harris (V65) 29:19, Tammy Oluyori 31:05 and Carly Rourke 32:02.

At Bolton, Ken Smith (V55) ran 24:11secs and Eileen Royle (V65) 26:59.
