HARDWORKING youngsters from Bury Grammar School for Boys were praised at its prizegiving night.
More than 200 people gathered at Victoria Hall in Bolton for the annual event, which celebrates the achievements of students and staff over the last 12 months.
The guests of honour were Bury Mayor, Cllr Mike Connolly, and former pupil and non-executive director of Manchester United, Michael Edelson.
The school’s headmaster, Richard Marshall, said: “Mr Edelson recounted some wonderful stories of his days at the school and also about his years at United, which had the audience of pupils, parents and guests totally enthralled.”
Of particular note at the September 20 ceremony was the school’s record A-level and GCSE exam results, which were announced in August. The school improved its GCSE results for the third year in a row, with 51 per cent of all grades being A or above, and 94 per cent of pupils achieving at least five GCSEs at C or above, including English and maths.
Two boys, Ali Chalabi and Jonathan McCay, got A*s in all 10 of their subjects and all of the school’s music students got As or above.
Mr Marshall thanked his staff and added: “The boys should be very proud.”
