A TEENAGER who has not had his hair cut for two years due to anxiety and mental health issues is willing to get a trim – if he can raise £3,000 for a hospital ward.

Sebastian McLeod, aged 14, has cerebral palsy and complex emotional and physical needs.

Getting his hair cut became an extremely traumatic experience and even bathing and washing has previously resulted in breakdowns and self-harming.

But Sebastian’s play leader on his ward at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Cassy Ansbro, has found the magic touch to relax him and get him to wash his hair.

And now the teenager from Brandlesholme has agreed to repay the favour if they can raise £3,000 to renovate the ward – by having a haircut and donating his hair to the Little Princess Trust cancer charity.

Sebastian’s mum Julie-Ann McLeod, aged 43, said: “It can be very tough with Seb, he’s very up and down and can get very depressed. But fortunately Cassy can get him to cooperate, she has been amazing – we need 100 Cassys.”

Money raised from Sebastian’s haircut will be spent on renovating the multi-sensory room on the neurology ward at the children’s hospital, in Oxford Road in Manchester.

Ms Ansbro, who works with Sebastian, said he is a “fantastic character with a great personality” who has offered up his own ideas of refurbishing the multi-sensory room, including making it more fashionable for teenagers like himself.
