DOZENS of people from across the borough have been saying ‘yes to yelfies’ in what is a very special month for Bury Hospice.

Throughout October, Bury residents have been backing a special campaign to raise awareness of the first-class care the hospice provides, as well as raising vital funds to support it.

One of the lighthearted ideas was to encourage people to wear yellow and take selfies — known as 'yelfies'.

They then upload them onto social media, make a donation by texting YELF13 to 70070, and challenge family and friends to follow suit.

Scores of hospice supporters have completed the challenge, and the Bury Times staff have got into the spirit by donning yellow to work for the day.

And it is not too late to get in on the act, as the yelfie challenge lasts until the end of this month, helping the Rochdale Old Road facility to raise the £5,000 a day it needs to operate.

"We've had a tremendous response to our yelfie campaign and our publicity drive as part of Hospice Care Month. It has helped raise the profile of the hospice, as well as much-needed funds and it has given all our valued staff and volunteers a spring in their step, as we know the whole town is fully behind us," said Bury Hospice fundraiser Michelle King.

She added: "There are still a few days left to get involved, so get snapping and upload those yelfies to social media."

Bury Times editor Mike Crutchley said: "The care provided by the hospice is exceptional.

"We constantly hear moving stories about what a difference the hospice has made to people in their final days and how it has also helped families come to terms with losing a loved one.

"It is vital that it continues to receive the funding and support it needs to carry on making a real difference."

Businesses can do their bit too, as the hospice is encouraging workplaces across the borough to hold a Bring a Cake to Work day before the end of this month.
