Drink thief given curfew

AN ALCOHOL thief has been given a curfew.
Joseph Lawrence Hindley, aged 32, of Burns Avenue, Goshen, admitted to Bury magistrates that he stole £30 worth of alcohol belonging to Alan Steele in Bury on October 21.
He was ordered to pay £30 compensation to Mr Steele and to stay home from 8pm to 7am until February 8.
An allegation that Hindley broke into a building in St Peter’s Road, Gigg, on the same day was dismissed after no evidence was offered.

Handbag theft

PATRICK Patten, aged 19, of Toon Crescent, Brandlesholme, admitted that he stole a woman’s handbag worth £90 in Bury on August 24. He was ordered to pay £90 compensation and fined £395.

Vandal caused door damage

A VANDAL went to a woman’s house in Bury and damaged her door.
Andrew David Smithson, aged 36, of Verdun Road, Eccles, admitted to Bury magistrates that he went to a house in Lichfield Drive, Bury, on October 5 and damaged the back door which caused £300 to repair.
Smithson must pay £300 compensation to the owner of the house and must also pay £135 in fines and court costs.

Benefit cheat spared jail

A BENEFIT cheat has been spared jail after magistrates said she had shown remorse.
Nadine Alicia Alps, aged 32, of Ashwood Drive, Brandlesholme, claimed housing benefit between October 28, 2013 and July 12, 2015 when she was not entitled to as she was living with her partner Shayne Fulton.
She also claimed income support between October 21, 2013 and July 8, 2015, when she was not entitled to for the same reason.
Alps admitted two counts of benefit fraud to Bury magistrates and was given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for a year.
Magistrates said the offence was serious as it had taken place over almost two years.
However, they said she has shown remorse, has no previous conviction and is the sole carer for children.
Alps must attend probation appointments over the next year and pay £100 court costs.

Woman stole £500 handbag

A WOMAN who stole a handbag has been ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid work.
Sima Karim, aged 37, of Marquis Avenue, Bury, admitted to Bury magistrates that she stole the bag, worth £500, from a woman in Bury on April 30.
Karim was also ordered to pay the victim £750 compensation when she appeared in court.

Woman fined after assault

A WOMAN has been ordered to pay £535 in fines and court costs after admitting assault.
Donna Scott, aged 44, of Phoenix Street, Bury, admitted assaulting a woman in Bury on May 11.
Magistrates decided not to put a restraining order in place They said it was unnecessary due to the lack of any history between Scott and the victim.

Meat thief, 30, sentenced

DEAN Gary Hodson, aged 30, of Thompson Drive, Topping Fold, has been given a 12-month conditional discharge after admitting that he stole meat worth £88 from Marks and Spencer in Bury.
Bury magistrates heard the offence took place on October 11. He was also ordered to pay £88 compensation to the shop and £20 court costs.

Vodka thief

JAMES Joseph Forrest, aged 33, of East Street, Bury, has been given a 12-month conditional discharge after admitting stealing £110 worth of vodka from Asda in Bury. He must pay £20 costs.

Man admitted assault

ALEXANDER Hinchcliffe, aged 47, of Hawthorn Crescent, Tottington, was ordered to pay £580 in fines and courts after he admitted to Bury magistrates that he assaulted a woman in Bury on October 14.

Driver banned

MOHAMMAD Mohsin Ali, aged 20, of Chesham Road, Chesham, admitted driving under the influence of cannabis in Bury. He was banned for a year and must pay £425 in fines and costs.

Bookmaker thieves spared jail

TWO cashiers who stole cash from the bookmakers where they worked have been spared jail.
Zoe Palmer and Ryan Wilson took £3,680 from Coral bookmakers in Bury. Palmer, aged 32, of Woodsome Drive, Huddersfield, and Wilson, aged 23, of Birkdale Close, Heywood, were later caught. The pair pleaded guilty at Bury magistrates court and were each given six-month prison sentences suspended for a year. Palmer was ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work, while Wilson was ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work.
The defendants were ordered to pay £1,840 compensation.

Drink-driver banned

A DRINK driver has been banned from getting behind the wheel for 23 months.
Daniel Christopher Mundy, aged 42, of Victoria Muse, Unsworth, drove a Volkswagen Golf in Calder Walk, Whitefield, on August 28 while over the legal alcohol limit.
He admitted drink driving to Bury magistrates and was also ordered to pay £470 in fines and court costs.

Assault man given curfew

A PRESTWICH man has been given a curfew after attacking a woman.
Peter Cassasola, aged 45, of Bury Old Road, pleaded guilty at Bury magistrates to assault in Bury on October 1. 
He must stay home from 7pm to 7am daily until November 20 and must pay £170 court costs.

Man banned from street

A MAN has been banned from entering a Whitefield street for at least 19 months.
Richard Ellams, aged 42, of Westleigh Street, Manchester, admitted to Bury magistrates that he breached a court order by sending a text message to a woman on July 23.
He has been told to stay away from Clarence Avenue until June, 2018, and to not contact the woman under the terms of a restraining order.
Ellams was also ordered to pay £80 in fines and court costs.

Knifeman threatened neighbour

A KNIFEMAN who threatened his neighbour in Prestwich has been spared jail.
Simon Robert Blann, aged 43, of Downham Gardens, had a disagreement with a neighbour David Talbot who lives two doors down.
On May 24, Blann went to the address while armed with a knife and threatened to use the knife.
Blann was charged with threatening behaviour and knife possession and admitted both offences to Bury magistrates.
He was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for a year and was told to stay home from 9pm to 7am daily until December 18,
Blann must also stay away from Mr Talbot's house for five months and pay £115 court costs.
Magistrates said the offences were serious as Blann had made serious threats to a neighbour and that the incident was aggravated by the possession of a knife and the threats made to use it.

Penalty points

A MAN who drove without a licence or insurance has been given six penalty points.
Clifton Paul Webber, aged 30, of Bury Old Road, Whitefield, admitted to Bury magistrates that he committed two motoring offences while driving a black Audi A1 in Bury New Road, Whitefield, on October 3.
He was also ordered to pay £265 in fines and court costs.
