THOUSANDS of athletes will be lacing up their trainers once again as the Bury 10K returns for 2017.

Following the success of the inaugural event in September, the hugely popular run will be brought back on Sunday, September 17, next year.

Hundreds of spectators lined the borough’s streets to cheer on runners along the course, which started and finished close to The Rock.

At last week’s council meeting, Cllr Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, praised the impact of the run, which brought in thousands of pounds for local charities.

He was responding to a question from Cllr Roy Walker, who asked that the route for 2017 be changed so that the same residents “do not suffer every year” from road closures in the area.

The run, part of the Asda Foundation Series, is staged in partnership with the I Will If You Will fitness movement. To sign up for the 2017 run, visit runforall.com/10k/bury
