HIGH SCHOOL pupils put on their hard hats and picked up their tools as they got stuck into an exciting after-school course at Bury College.
Pupils from across the region were invited to join Trade School, a five week club aimed at any youngsters who are interested in working within the construction industry.
The course allowed them to develop new skills and techniques in carpentry and joinery, plastering, brickwork, plumbing and electrical installation.
The sessions, which were delivered at the college’s construction centre, also offered an opportunity for pupils to use the industry standard equipment.
Lewis Richards, aged 15, from St Gabriel’s RC High School, who has applied to study bricklaying at Bury College in September 2017 said: “I have really enjoyed learning new skills at Trade School and have developed techniques to successfully build a wall.
“These sessions really opened up my eyes to the opportunities available within the construction industry.”
Peter Mears, Bury College bricklaying tutor added: “During the five week sessions the pupils have learnt the basic techniques of bricklaying which include plumbing, levelling, ranging and measuring as well as how to work together as a team.”
