CHILDREN and staff at a Prestwich primary school are celebrating after receiving their latest Ofsted report.

Park View Primary School, in Park View Road, received a ‘good’ rating in the report published earlier this month.

The school was praised for maintaining a ‘good quality of education’ when inspector Allan Torr carried out an inspection in January, which was the first visit since the school was judged to be good in October, 2012.

In a report addressed to headteacher David Stephens, Mr Torr said: “The proportion of children attaining a good level of development in the early years has risen each year, as has the proportion of pupils attaining the expected standard in phonics. Similarly, across the school a higher proportion of pupils in reading, writing and mathematics attain the expected standards for their age. The school has also improved on the areas identified for improvement at the last inspection. You and other leaders have made sure that pupils are more involved in their learning and use their initiative.”

Mr Stephens added: “We are very pleased with our good rating, particularly as the Ofsted framework has changed since our previous inspection with considerably higher expectations and standards expected now far more rigorous.

“This judgement is testimony to the team work of all the staff; the ambition of our governing body who are relentless in their pursuit of continuous improvement; the excellent support of our parents and the fantastic effort from all our children.

“We pride ourselves on being a warm, welcoming, community school that serves our local area of Prestwich with pride and a determination to ensure that every child achieves their full potential.

“We will now reflect on the strengths noted in our latest inspection report and seek to consolidate and build upon them while striving to address areas for development in what is an ever changing and challenging educational climate as we continue our journey towards outstanding.”
