MAYOR of Bury Mike Connolly and his consort Ian Hargreaves visited Bury Hospice to present certificates at a Six Steps celebration event.

Patsy Gibson, from the Pennine Care Foundation Trust (Community Service Bury), has been running a Six Steps course for a year at Bury Hospice which is about end of life care.

In the past the course has been for people who work in care homes but, for the first time, this course has trained staff who care for adults with learning disabilities.

It was about helping staff to recognise when someone may be terminally ill and also helping them with their choices - whether it’s to be cared for at home, in the hospice or in hospital.

Ms Gibson, who is end of life care facilitator, said: “This was a special year as it was the first time I have done this training with staff who care for adults with a learning disability. said Ms Gibson, who is end of life care facilitator.

“We are celebrating their success on completing this programme which has taken nearly a year and we also thank for hospice for letting us use their facilities.”

Those who passed the course involved staff from Outreach in Bury, Bury Learning Disability Team, North West Community Services, Bury ILD, Bury Supported Living and Bankhouse Care Home.
