ANGRY residents have slammed a neighbour's garden as looking "like something from Steptoe and Son."

The garden of the house on Chaffinch Drive in Bury is piled high with a variety of bricks and other building debris.

People in the street claim owner Ron Davis has turned it into an eyesore and are calling for the council to take urgent action.

Joanne Keating, who lives next door to the property, said: "My neighbour owns his own property and he thinks it’s fine to do DIY at half four in the morning. There are lot of people in my street who are elderly or have young children and get woken by him. It's like something from Steptoe and Son."

She says the lack of sleep is leaving her and finance Arron Biggs drained.

"When he leaves the property we do the Grand National up the stairs to get some sleep before he comes back. We are so drained we don’t know what to do. He’s banging, drilling, sanding, you name it he’s doing everything. It’s like he’s ripping his house down every day and every night."

Mr Davis was approached by The Bury Times but declined to comment.

Miss Keating, aged 31, has lived on the street for three years and says the problems have been constant.

She added: "I have had pest control out because I’m getting rats in my garden and my neighbours' garden."

Miss Keating said: "There’s a big pile of bricks, a pool, a bed, a roof rack off a car, there’s sand bags, garage doors and fencing. In his back garden there’s lots of rubbish. With his front garden it’s on and off. It’s seems to get better and then it’s all back. It’s beyond a joke. I don’t want one of my dogs getting bitten by rats."

Miss Keating and other neighbours have approached the council on numerous occasions to complain about their noisy neighbour.

Miss Keating, who lives in a council house, feels the rules are different because her neighbour owns his house. She said: "If I make noise the housing officer is here straight away. It just seems to be a rule for one and a rule for another."

A spokesman for Bury Council confirmed there have been complaints about the property regarding noise and building work.

He said: "We have received a number of complaints over a long period about the conduct of a resident living in Chaffinch Drive. We are taking this matter seriously; however, there is a number of issues involved here, and we are working across departments to tackle the problem."
