A MELODIOUS eight-year-old from Bury Grammar School Boys has won a coveted place at one of England's top boarding schools.

Sebastian Gray, a year three pupil, has won a choristership to King's College School Cambridge thanks to his singing talent.

He will start at the school in September and will board week days at first with his parents committing to a long commute at weekends.

His mother, Fiona Gray, pastoral deputy head at the girls grammar school said: "We're all very excited and delighted for him, it's a huge achievement."

Mrs Gray explained he auditioned for a place in January, singing a song, performing oral exercises and playing his violin.

Matt Turner, head of the junior boys at Bury Grammar School was very pleased for Sebastian and said: "It's amazing for him."

Sebastian's new headmaster Nick Robinson, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming Sebastian into the King’s chorister family.

"This is the start of a wonderful adventure for him, and we look forward to him joining us at King’s College School in September."

Sebastian also won two individual prizes at the Ramsbottom Music Festival this month.

He won the classical/folk vocal solo for 11s and under and the strings solo grade 2 Angela Campbell Trophy for his violin playing.
