A FORMER nursing home worker accused of abusing an elderly dementia sufferer has been issued with workplace restrictions.

Trushna Tailor who worked at Cameron House Care Home, Elton is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and was suspended from working at the home.

The investigation is understood to relate to allegations of her abusing a dementia sufferer at the home.

A resident reportedly asked to go to the toilet, while staff were having a meeting, the resident was allegedly told it wasn’t a matter of life or death.

A member of staff present at the time of the incident described it to The Bury Times: “This lady came to the door, she came to the door and wanted to go to the toilet.

“She told her to go away.

“In the end she said is it a matter of life and death? [The lady] I don’t know what you mean.

“She said are you going to die if you don’t go to the toilet.

“She said well go to your room or I’ll lock you in it."

The member of staff who saw the event was called by the NMC as a witness and provided them with a witness statement.

The Bury Times has heard a voice recording, reportedly of the incident, where one woman can be heard asking another "is it life or death".

A spokesman for Four Seasons Health Care, which manages Cameron House, said: "After a resident said that she had been handled roughly, although was unable to be clear about when this occurred, and a member of the home's staff reported that nurse Trushna Tailor had spoken inappropriately to another resident, she was suspended from duty and the company notified the authorities and supported enquiries, so leading to the NMC hearing.

"She no longer works in any of the company's care homes.

"We have an active whistle blowing policy that encourages residents, their relatives and our staff to raise any concerns they may have about any aspect of care or conduct and these are always followed up and the appropriate authorities notified."

Any further work in similar fields by Miss Tailor is currently subject to an interim condition of practice order set by the NMC.

At the moment, Miss Tailor “must not be the nurse in charge of any shift”, she must work on the same shift as a registered nurse.

In addition she must regularly send reports to her supervisor commenting on her conduct and performance “in particular commenting on your communication skills and management of vulnerable patients and those with dementia”.

Similar reports must be sent from her supervisor to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Miss Tailor's case is still being examined by the Council and "examiners are yet to decide whether there is a case to answer in relation to the allegation made against" her.

Cameron House has an overall “good” OFSTED rating, it is rated “good” in four areas of assessment, including safety and care, it is rated “requires improvement” for its responsiveness.
